Who is not?

  • He/She is not a doctor; thus, is not authorized to prescribe medication.
  • He/She is not a saint; thus, does not know the answer to all questions, the solution to all problems.
  • He/She is not a life coach; thus, does not guide the patient, make decisions on his/her behalf, does not give any advice of 'proper' behavior about any situation of the patient's life (it triggers the patient's ability to make effective decisions on his/her own).
  • He/She is not 'an emergency line'; thus, is not on the other end of line any time you wish.
  • He/ She is not a parent ; thus, does not scold, say 'well done, my child', does not judge, does not give advice (to gain the ability to meet these needs on your own is one of the important goals of therapy).
